NDP Vote = Green Vote

The Conservatives don't give a rat's ass about the environment. They consistently ignore climate change, talking a weak game and doing nothing to meet their weak targets. In fact, I'm convinced that Stephen Harper is one of the many people who has decided that the overwhelming science of climate change is too inconvenient to believe.

So Monday's green vote in Canada's 41st election is about voting against the Conservatives.

I support Linda Duncan, Ray Martin, and Lewis Cardinal to get the green vote in Edmonton's have-a-hope-in-hell-of-not-electing-a-Conversative ridings. Especially with the national NDP surge, Martin and Cardinal have a small chance, while Duncan obviously has a significant chance of winning.

In my opinion, an NDP vote is a green vote if you are in the above three ridings. In any other Alberta riding, I'm sorry but you will have a Conservative MP on Monday. Vote your conscience.

P.S. In case you haven't noticed, our first-past-the-post system is terrible. I've heard Jack Layton promise that he would push for a system of proportional representation before, so that's another hope that I have if the NDP make significant gains on Monday

As for most people in our commuity I have met Linda Duncan and she is a fine person having done many years working on a an equitable society.

I will be voting for her in my riding this year. I normally vote for the Green Party but, like Conrad, feel my vote is needed to support Linda so that there is some island of alternative thought in Alberta.

I am very much in support of proportional representation (PR) being a voting system but I am unsure whether the NDP will deliver this. It has been part of their platform for many years but nowhere did the NDP implement it when they were the provincial political leaders. I won't hold my breath on this one but I will hope that they will help implement proportional representation in Canada - even the United Kingdom (UK) is looking at bringing this in (only three western democracies don't have PR - UK, USA and Canada). Sad but hopeful.

We are so privileged to live in a country where we can vote for the person/party/leader of our choice. We do not live in fear that we could be killed or injured or our homes burned because we voted. The streets are not lined with armed men whose purpose is either to protect or hinder our right to vote.
The right to vote is one of the most valuable advantages of living in Canada. - Jim
